This tropical vine is native to Brazil and has amazing silvery color and serrated leaves.
The tiny white or opaque spots on the undersides of Cissus amazonica (Amazon jungle vine) leaves are cystoliths, which are natural calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) crystals embedded in the plant's cell wall epidermis.
Growth Habit: A slow-growing climber that can trail elegantly from a hanging basket or scale a trellis, moss pole, or other support structure. Vines can reach up to 8–10 feet in length.
Optimal Growing Conditions:
Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light. Direct sun can scorch the delicate leaves, but too little light will cause the silver patterning to fade.
Soil & Water: Prefers an airy, well-draining potting mix. The soil should be kept consistently moist but not waterlogged. They do not tolerate prolonged dryness.
Temperature & Humidity: As a tropical plant, it prefers warm temperatures (65–80°F / 18–26°C) and high humidity (60–80%). It should not be exposed to temperatures below 50°F (10°C).
Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer every few weeks during the active spring and summer growing seasons, scaling back entirely in the fall and winter.
Well-established in a 4 inch pot.
